Track Report/Information
:Nocona MX Park in Nocona, Tx. (940)825-3639
Nocona advertises the "Best Dirt in Texas". Holy crap it's no lie. If you haven't been here, do yourself a favor and GO.. NOW! The track is nothing but perfectly manicured loam. The layout is long and somewhat open with fairly wide passing lanes and tons of line options. Jumps range from easy to intermediate with a decent sized whoop section. Overall this is one of my favorite places to ride as it's fast, open, and fairly safe. Also the open practices are a definite bonus. So pack your gear, load the bikes and get your butt up there. Once you're there tell Leroy I sent ya.
Village Creek MX Park in Ft Worth, Tx. (817)483-5028
Village Creek hosts two motocross tracks, flattrack, and mini-track for the kids. The Village Creek nightrack is tight and relatively easy. The nightrack has a really cool rhythm section (double/double) and a hearty sized triple. The daytrack is fast, huge, and downright phenomenal when Terry doesn't over water it. The daytrack has a mixture of everything from long tables, nasty step-downs, doubles, triples, and rutted corners to boot.
Mosier Valley in Ft Worth, Tx. (817)540-0815
Mosier Valley is probably the oldest track in Texas, unfortunately it is beginning to show its age. Home to the Texas GNC, Mosier is well known for its lengthy layout, rutted corners, and loamy dirt. It's not a jumpers track but it is fast. With a little maintenance this track could easily return to its glory.
Weatherford MX Park in Weatherford, Tx. (817)341-RACE
Weatherford is a tight and somewhat technical night track. It has a wide variety of jumps ranging from rhythm sections, tables, small doubles, small triples, one big triple, and an awesome finishline stepdown. Weatherford also boasts a nasty whoop section. The track is under new managment now and they are making steady improvements. That isn't to say it was bad before because it wasn't. Check it out if you are in the area.
Southern Star MX Ranch in Rendon, Tx. (817)419-7955
Southern Star is a practice only track. Don't let that fool you. John Kemp and crew have done an awesome job creating a purebred MX training facility. The "Ranch" has three tracks: AX, Outdoor, and Pee-Wee. The outdoor track has faster sweepers, tight berms, tables, doubles, and a killer rhythm section. The obstacles are tight and technical and will improve anyone's skillset. The AX track is brutal, enough said.
Shady Grove in Irving, Tx.
You either like Shady Grove or hate it. It has a little bit of everything except water! Don't forget extra goggles when you ride Shady, it's a return trip to the Dustbowl Era. Shady has one track which isn't clearly marked so be careful. It's a "free-for-all" ride with a combination of hardpack dirt, jumps, jumps, and more jumps. Did I mention dust? If you're feeling up to the occasion, Shady does offer a miniature SX section complete with whoops, rhythm sections, and a steep 70ft triple (which will make a man out of you).
Cooperland Raceway in Stillwater, Ok.
Cooperland used to be owned and operated by 90's mx guru Guy Cooper. The boy can build a track, trust me. While Cooper doesn't own the facility anymore, he does assist in maintenance and design.. not to mention he lives just down the street. The track is big, I mean BIG. I'm constantly jealous of the jumps up there because they are huge. It's an awesome facility and not a bad drive from the DFW area.
Stillwater Cycle Park in Stillwater, Ok.
A jumper's paradise, but don't forget to wash your gear immediately after the ride. If not, it will be stained tomato red for the rest of its life. Stillwater Cycle is awesome to say the least. It hosts a variety of challenges, ranging from 20mile single track loops to a tight SX style track. There is also a small circuit of freestyle-type jumps. Stillwater is my alltime favorite place to ride cause it has a little bit of everything.
Greenville MX Park in Greenville, Tx.
Greenville is just about an hour east of Dallas, which makes it fairly convenient. The track is long and fairly challenging. Greenville is a nice alternative as it has a little bit of everything to offer. Doubles, triples, stepdowns, stepups, rhythm, and tons of corners with alternative line choices. Soil is a mix between half sand/half hardpack. For the most part it's open practice although they might hold organized the weekend of a race, I can't verify that yet though. Give it a shot, it's worth the drive.
Cycle Ranch MX Park in Floresville, Tx.
Cycle Ranch MX is located in Floresville, Tx. That's about 30 min's south/southeast of San Antonio for those who are paying attention. Cycle Ranch is also home of the Four Stroke Nationals. It really is an awesome facility. Cycle Ranch has a concrete start with a covered over-hang. It also has a stoplight style starting indicator. The track itself is long, loamy and fast. It's mostly sandy-loam but has a few uphill/downhill sections that are hardpacked and get riddled with braking bumps the size of Volkswagens.. meaning set your suspension accordingly. There is a nice fade-away style tunnel jump, several tables, a huge step-up, and awesome doubles. There is also a small rhythm section and some whoops for all who enjoy beating themselves senseless. Don't be alarmed, the whoops are easy. Anyway, the track has awesome berms and a cool layout. Definitely worth checking out if you're ever in the area. I'll be back.
